Personal Injury
How do you know
if you need a lawyer?
In most cases, people who have been injured in motor vehicle
accidents are very distressed in the early post-accident period. If seriously
injured, this is to be expected, but in some instances where injuries are not
clearly catastrophic, victims find themselves confused and overwhelmed by
circumstances with which they are not familiar.
Whilst not all accident victims require the services of a
lawyer, it is our view that consultation with a legal advisor is advisable .
Sometimes a simple telephone call can provide relief to somebody whose problems
may seem great to them, but in reality are not something about which to worry.
We encourage such calls.
The need for legal representation depends on a wide variety
of factors. It is our view that legal representation is advisable for the
following:
-
If injuries have been sustained that prove to be chronic
and/or disabling
-
If there is a possibility of loss of future earning
capacity
-
If there is an ongoing reduction in the quality of life
due to pain or physical restriction.
We do not encourage people, however, to retain lawyers
and/or commence lawsuits for routine matters. Consultation with our lawyers will
result in a frank and candid assessment of these factors.
If
in doubt as to whether you need a lawyer, go to our separate online resource,
Settlement Road.
How we can help?
We have been working in the area of personal injury
litigation for over 30 years. Although most of this work relates to motor
vehicle accident claims, we also have wide experience with medical malpractice,
sexual assault and other types of injuries resulting in claims for damages
because of somebody else’s negligence.
We offer:
-
Free consultations
-
Free printed information packages (containing useful
advice about claims and legal procedures)
-
Free meetings to discuss claims and the nature of our
retainer and services
-
Flexible fee arrangements. Generally the client only pays
if and when there has been a recovery made. The fees depend upon the size and
severity of a claim.
-
To carry all expenses incurred in prosecuting claims,
obtaining medical legal opinions, etc. (We will recapture these when a claim
is settled or a judgment rendered at trial.)
-
Two office locations, (Vancouver and Newton, Surrey ). We
encourage clients to meet us at either location, but are prepared to meet
clients at their homes or other locations in circumstances where travel is
difficult. We encourage new clients to meet our support staff so that they
will have a personal familiarity with the people who will be working on their
behalf
In a nutshell, we will finance your litigation and share
with you the risks of gain or loss.
Our Philosophy
We prefer to handle a limited number of carefully selected
cases to which we can apply our full resources and attention. This hands-on
approach means that the client is always fully apprized of the status of their
claim/lawsuit and receives appropriate advice before important decisions have to
be made.
Over the years we have gained the deepest respect for people
who overcome what are oftentimes major life altering events. We believe that
every client should feel that their lawyer is a person in whom they can have the
utmost confidence and respect. A lawyer with whom they feel comfortable. A
lawyer in whom they have confidence that the best results will be achieved on
their behalf.
Many of our lawyers are trained in mediation techniques and
we have much success in resolving claims either through mediated or negotiated
settlements. We encourage this form of dispute resolution as much as possible.
We do not believe in forcing people to trial against their
wishes, however, we will advise if we believe this course of action to be in our
client’s best interest. Sometimes, claims take a long time to settle; complex
litigation can go on for several years. During that time, in appropriate cases,
we will take an active role in our client’s rehabilitation. The relationship
between lawyer and client is most important.
